The Blessing

There are moments in life so sacred, so unexpected...they forever transform the soul.
Being welcomed and invited into the prayer circle of the Sisters of The One Drum was one of those moments for me. Led by their Founder, Sewa Valencia, a widely respected Yaqui Apache leader, culture bearer and medicine woman, these powerful, radiant women, keepers of ancestral knowledge, healing and joy, surrounded me with their voices, their prayers and their profound medicine. As they serenaded me with their Honor Song, I felt an overwhelming wave of emotion. I was shaking and sobbing, humbled by the depth of their love and spirit.
As I turned slowly within their circle, facing each woman, my Aunties, my familia, I saw my Mami in their faces, at every stage of her life.
It was as if she had come back through them to witness and bless this ceremony. Their bodies held her spirit. Their songs carried her voice.
For a brief moment, I felt like I might collapse under the power of it all. Was I strong enough to receive this medicine? Was I worthy of this magic? It turns out, I was. I was being held up by them, by my ancestors, by something far greater.
With their permission and blessing, I now share this sacred moment and video as a testament to the path I’m walking through DIVINA WORLD Foundation and our Indigenous & World Music Hall of Fame & Museum Project. I was gifted more than a song, I was gifted clarity, purpose and belonging.
I am honored. I am grateful. And I will never be the same.
Thank you for bearing witness to my story .
